    RPC technology combining u-IT

    We developed the world’s first technology enabling quality management and history tracking throughout the entire chain from rice production to distribution by combining u- IT technologies. The technology dramatically improves the competitiveness of the rice industry in Korea by scaling up RPCs through the consolidation, ensuring safe production/distribution management of quality staple grains and establishing private inventory management systems. We built one pilot RPC in Cambodia and provided technological support to an integrated system development project for the rice industry.

    Quick mold toxicity detection technique

    We developed a relevant technology and a portable detection kit to analyze food-contaminating mold toxicity promptly and precisely. The developed fluorescence polarization immunoassay (FPIA) significantly reduces the time taken for analysis to 10 minutes from 1 hour for existing chromatography analysis and from 30 minutes for existing immunoassay. We produced Korea’s first portable fluorescence polarization instrument and transferred the technology to Seed Bio Chips.

    Cooked and packaged under the aseptic condition, aseptically-packaged rice product is well-accepted by consumers as a ready-to-eat meal because the texture and taste of rice rarely differ compared to the that cooked immediately, even after six months storage at the room temperature. We developed a wide variety of ready-to-eat products (e.g. ready-to-eat rice noodles, drinks, breads and cereal products) using Korean rice and transferred the technology to the industry, which is expected to contribute greatly to the expansion of domestic rice consumption.

    Korean space food

    Using traditional Korean foods, we developed Korean space food products suiting the taste of astronauts such as cooked rice, kimchi, soybean paste soup, hot pepper paste, green tea and red ginseng tea. The Korean space food products meet all the challenging requirements for space foods: long-term shelf life, safety, nutritious value, and easy handling in space.

    Cleansing/sterilization technology for fresh cut vegetables

    We developed a sterilization system that efficiently reduces microorganisms in fresh cut vegetables whose distribution in the domestic market is growing rapidly. The continuous cleansing device optimizes water pressure and air pressure to minimize damage to vegetable tissues and reduce associated microorganisms. We successfully reduced microorganisms (99% of all germs annihilated), shortened the time taken to cleanse (from five minutes to one minute) and lowered the tissue damage rate to less than 3% and transferred the technology to a relevant enterprise.

    Continuous ginger cleansing/ peeling technology

    Continuous ginger cleansing/ peeling technology

    We developed continuous cleansing/peeling technologies for ginger, bellflower root and other free-form root vegetables. It represents the world’s first water knife-type peeling technology that uses fine water particles and micro-bubbles to minimize tissue damage and depletion. Transferred to farm cooperative associations, the technology successfully shortens the time taken for cleaning/peeling (from two hours to two minutes) and reduces the depletion rate (from 18% to 7%).
